Credo #34: They both ate

Posted: March 25, 2011 in Credo

Whether you see in the Genesis account a literal and factual narrative; or a metaphorical relation to us of God’s word, the message is the same:  They both ate.

They both ate.  You are heirs alongside your sisters to the state of man-kind, which is to have an old nature by virtue of having been born into the hu-man race.     Your status as head of your single life; and someday, perhaps, of a larger household, is not an indication of superior moral worth by virtue of possessing an XY chromosome.

It is true, especially if you live in the Anglosphere, that many hold that women are morally superior by virtue of their gender.  This is a view in many of our churches; and it is a view that in fact is trenchant in some Christian woman who have, though they see it not, a vested interest in maintaining this fiction.

But the opposite is not true, either.  Not even if you are a victim, or think yourself to be one.

As C. S. Lewis put it, we are all as feminine in relation to Him.  Though that is a side point from the one I am trying to make.
